I don't know why summer is on my mind. Perhaps it is because I am dreading it. This is the first year that we have not gone home for a vacation during the summer. I think that is also why I feel exceptionally homesick- because I don't know when we will see family again. I keep thinking of our ancestors who left their extended families and traveled to the United States with the possibility of never seeing them again. I guess that should make me feel grateful for what I have. We have been very blessed to see our extended family at least once a year in the 12 1/2 years since we've been married. But I still feel sad.
So, I am trying to think positively and plan some fun things to do this summer. We will join our town pool and I think we will probably spend quite a bit of time there- thank heaven for water play! It is not a great toddler-friendly place because the most shallow pool is 2 1/2 feet which is too deep for Lilo, but it will do the trick for H and Jojo. I'll figure out a way to manage with Lilo.
I also think this is a great plan which I intend to implement. I have also looked on several websites for good ideas of fun things to do with kids in the summer.
What are your plans? What do you like to do now with your kids and what do you remember doing when you were a kid during the summer?

...I still can't think about it.
just curious? who is my denver, colorado lurker? i promise i won't bite.
is that you, bryan?
What do I remember about summers? Playing with your family and Jenny convincing me that I could get a moon tan so I slept all night on your trampoline in my swimming suit!
Thanks for getting in touch - my parents send their best!
Liza, We'll miss you! The pool will be a blast for your kids.
I have a Denver lurker too, I think Tim does too. I don't think it is Bryan because when I was private I sent him an invite, but he didn't sign in. And it has been showing the Denver for awhile.
i'm with melissa - spring is on my mind, not summer yet. i'm so glad the snow seems to be gone! (knock on wood).
i'm trying to get a sisters/female cousins weekend together for spring 2009. we will meet in san francisco at my aunt's house. it's a first, so we'll see how it goes. but i think sisters week/end is a great idea - especially when you have so many kids that it gets harder to travel and harder to visit during said travel because of all the kid distractions.
p.s. we do have a hinckley reunion in wisconsin at pat's parents cabin this summer. i'm looking forward to it as it will be our only big trip. i think we'll do a weekend in vermont and maybe we'll head down to jersey to see some friends there??!!
OK, I have no kids...but I do have summer memories. We loved to play baseball, basketball, night games, etc. Sleepovers at the Pearson's. Sleep out in the back yard. Going to the POOL! The zoo, the park, story time at the library, book clubs, primary activities, etc. I think the siters week sounds like fun (on your link).
